Sometimes it's a few quick squeezes, then a quick toss or shove & he'll say, "All done Pip"...Other times he wants to really play with her- whether that's having her sit beside him & play cars together or hold her hands & think she can literally do ring-around-the-rosy without my assistance...
And then there are times, mostly when he thinks I'm not paying attention where he is the sweetest, most unbelievably gentle little boy...
The other day while I was on the phone with one of Pip's doctors, Noal of course at that exact moment wanted "Pippy Time"...It started out with me whispering, covering the phone to "Be gentle like a dove & only play with her feet"...
As the conversation with the doctor continued, Noal made his move & shimmed his way beside her, "encouraging" her to roll on her belly...He then proceed to sing "Head & Shoulders" poking her as he went...A few more songs, followed with giggles between the two of them, me desperately trying to take pics & get off the phone to watch a moment between the two of them that would make any mumma swoon...
As soon as Noal thought I wasn't paying attention to the two of them, the real moments in mummyhood where you're just so happy in your heart, happened...At first he kept patting her head saying "gentle, gentle, you ok Pippy?"...Then he cupped her face with his little chubby hands & they just stayed in that moment staring at each other until finally Noal just kinda scooped her up in a big, awkward bear hug...And trust me, that little tank can hug hard...But not once did Pippy complain, she just let him hug her this way & that way enjoying his attention...It's almost as if she knows Noal is her safe place...
These little cuddle monsters are something else- I love that he gives her a squeeze with everything he's got...
Just killing me over here with their sweet little moments...I love that he loves her...Period...

If you could "bottle" that love and sprinkle it on the world it would spread so much happiness. Beautiful pictures and words once again. Warmest Wishes, Alison from England
ReplyDeleteI love it. It is funny because our situation is the exact opposite. Our 4 year old girl with DS scares us with her 8 month old brother. Fayth absolutely loves her brother. We just have to make sure she doesn't love him "too" rough. Then again, maybe she is just toughening him up a bit. I wrote about Fayth adapting to a little brother yesterday http://specialfamiliescoach.com/younger-brother-helped-fayth-adapt-to-change/
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing. I love the moments of sibling love. PRICELESS!
Thank you linking this wonderful post to Downs Side Up. I think our bigger siblings grow up so incredibly thoughtful and sensitive and caring because they take special needs in their stride, not inspite of growing up with a brother or sister with additional needs.
