Operation Ellen

Dearest Ellen,
I’ve tried it all...Desperate video pleas, cute photos of my hooligans, I’ve even upped the ante and threw the dog in to grab your attention...I’ve convinced my toddler that Ellen is his favourite show and I’ve even got him singing word for word “What Does the Fox Say?” All in hopes you’d give us a call…

Not because I have cute kids...And I do have cute kids by the way...I mean unbelievable, ridiculously cute…

Right? But they aren’t the reason I want to meet you…

You see I’m just looking for a little hope...Our little girl Pip, was born with Down syndrome, and she has had numerous eye & heart surgeries with more to come...Not the greatest of times, but in a way the absolute best. The love that has come our way the past year has amazed me & the inspiration Pip has given to others has changed how I will forever see the world. Although my family has been through one hell of a year, we found happiness in our journey by sharing it with others.

I started Happy Soul Project with the intent to show others that while our daughter and our life may be a wee bit different, it is brilliant all the same...And what started as a blog I thought my mum and a handful of friends would read has turned into almost a movement...Happy Soul Project has reached thousands...Has touched lives...Has broken down stigmas and doubts...It has even saved babies that were going to be aborted because of Down syndrome...It is changing people’s perceptions and perspectives...It has encouraged people to look at life with a grateful spirit and of course a happy soul…
Happy Soul Project and if I’m being honest, me, have all of a sudden found such a beautiful purpose...That all being said, a wee bit of good, old hope would go a long way for us right now...And for some odd reason my wee bit of hope happens to be YOU…

And that doesn’t mean I want moula or a trip or anything extravagant like such...{Although my husband would shake his head knowing I’m writing that}...For me, I’m a weird one...I find my hope in having a laugh...Having that little bug in my ear, with you telling me what to say while getting people good would just about be the best thing I could ever imagine doing…

Well that and bringing awareness to Down syndrome and Happy Soul Project…

Okay not gonna lie all that plus I wanna stick it bad to my husband...He believes I dream in rainbows and unicorns and when I first started Happy Soul Project, he said there was no way I could get your attention...To really fire me up he told me that if I did he would get a tattoo, something he despises just because he thinks it’s impossible to do…

So while I’d just about be the happiest person on earth pranking someone, and I’d love to spread awareness about looking at life a wee bit differently – showing my husband that sometimes the impossible just needs a bit of hope and that unbelievable things can happen, would be pretty damn special...

So dear Ellen, please call- I live in such a way that I truly believe you will...Maybe I really do dream in rainbows and unicorns for believing this can happen…

But dreaming has made Happy Soul Project what it is today...And while this wasn’t the life I necessarily dreamed of and Pip wasn’t the daughter I imagined having, I can honestly say I am happy Fate/God/Karma or whomever thought to paint our lives outside the lines.

Thank you for taking the time to hear our story…

Laugh, Dance, Love ~ What a way to live…

P.S - Maybe we should make my unbeliever-of-the-impossible husband get an Ellen tattoo - that would really teach him to taunt someone’s dreams.

P.P.S - To see more about what Happy Soul Project is about click here...

P.P.P.S - This little 5 minute video will prove Pip's gonna light up the world...

P.P.P.P.S - If done of this floats your boat & I lost ya at cute kid singing “What Does the Fox Say”, well here you go...

P.P.P.P.P.S - I really do adore your hopeful spirit & happy soul...And thanks for putting up with all my P.S’s...

~Hope to dance with you soon~

  2. Pip is truly beautiful, not "in spite" of the fact that she's a Downs baby, but because she is. I just wanna hug her! I pray for her health and for your family.

  13. :) This is lovely. Thank you for posting. I have a family in an all too similar situation to you - also in Kingston. I know how hard life can be when you don't fit into the norm. It takes a lot of strength to shrug off the stares and ignorant comments and focus on living a happy normal life. This is a wonderful blog about your family and I will certainly be following it.

Pip makes my day each time I see her! Mom, Tara, is a beauty and would be an excellent, well spoken guest on your show. Pip's family shares their excitement openly in having each other... what a perfect place for this little angel to land! They are not "dealing" with a child who has differences; they are celebrating her with love and helping others through The Happy Soul Project. Of course, I've been a fan of Ellen (and her Mom) for many years, and now Pip; believing that "what makes you different, makes you beautiful!"
